What are we doing here?

embrace your culture

Stuff like this!

Kettle Art opened in November of 2005 with the formation of a business partnership with  Kirk Hopper and myself. Our landlord liked the idea of a gallery and with the assistance of several really good artists, it's come together fairly easy. We are an artists run venture, driven by people that simply want to shake things up.
Co-founding artist, Sergio Garcia, summed it up best when he said...

'I'd rather push the car to get it started,
instead of standing around waiting for a ride'.

Honestly I have no idea how other galleries can afford to keep their doors open. I've been involved with quite a few established arts groups over the years and even with non-profit status, very few still had a clue. It seems that unless you...
(a) represent artists whose works sell for thousands of dollars,
(b) have a major benefactor,
(c) double the space as your residence,
(d) host regular fundraisers or
(e) run a co-op or 'vanity' gallery,
the numbers just won't add up. We do none of the above.

Instead, Sergio, Havi, Mark, Cindy, Erica, Amber, Kirk and myself are all involved steadily and share an aggressive exhibition schedule. Together we have devoted countless unpaid hours to this gallery and hosted over twenty shows since opening. So far it's working.

By the way WE DO NOT SELL KETTLES so don't ask!
(the writing was on the wall from a long time ago.)

See?

Texas has an abundance of talented people with nowhere to show. This is a sad reality. Another is very few artists, (including many who are established or sell for big money) make a living doing their Art. Then there are those stoned out / flaky scoundrels that call themselves 'Artist' who diminish this hard won, respectable title.

All aspects add up to a very difficult time for those
who truly desire to create. With Kettle we hope to
assist dedicated artists in achieving their goals.

Kettle Art is based on good people, without attitudes or scams, sharing creative ideas and bringing them into action. We appreciate emerging and mid-career artists and are willing to showcase unconventional artforms such as graffiti, video and tattoo artists from time to time. We prefer showing local talent to nurture and encourage our regional culture. Simply put, if you're serious about your art
drop by
and show us what you're up to.

your bud,
Frank
